The neo-baroque Erholungshaus was opened in 1908 as a Bayer AG cultural centre and is the oldest venue in Leverkusen. The name "Erholungshaus" reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of the early 20th century, as the building, with its gymnasium, restaurant and reading room, initially served primarily as a meeting, entertainment, educational and sports facility for employees, their families and the cultural works clubs. In the post-war years a lively guest performance business began to develop with renowned theatres such as the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and many Cologne theatres. Badly damaged by fire in 1975, the Kulturhaus was reopened in 1977 after extensive building work. Since then, several renovation measures have followed. Throughout the year, the Erholungshaus hosts numerous cultural events, including the Leverkusen Jazztage, but the house can also be rented for corporate events, congresses and conferences.

The Great Hall
The large hall is located on the ground floor of the recreation house. It is known for its excellent acoustics, so that performances of the highest profession can take place there. The hall has a classical stage area consisting of a main stage with a revolving stage, forestage, side stage and backstage. The auditorium measures 480 square metres and can be equipped with both flat and high seating. With row seating, the hall with balcony on the first floor can seat over 680 guests. When fully developed, the hall has 960 standing places. The hall is the ideal setting for theatre and music evenings, dance events, banquets, congresses and large company events.
The Studio
The spacious studio is located on the 1st floor of the recreation house. With 140 sqm it offers space for 170 standing and 121 sitting places. The studio is equipped with a stage, truss and a small bar. The high windows give the room a generous flair. With its modern technical equipment the studio offers a variety of event possibilities.
The Rehearsal Foyer
The rehearsal foyer adjacent to the studio on the 1st upper floor of the building has 200 square metres.The bright room, divided by columns, is ideal for standing receptions and presentations. But also lectures, readings and small concerts find the ideal stage here. Seating can be arranged individually by arrangement.
